commUNITY Celebration, 2023

On Sunday 3rd December, over forty students of Amelia Nell's performed a total of 54 songs in the space of three and a half hours for the commUNITY Celebration at the Spring Hill Railway Hotel.

The event was a celebration for various local refugee organisations and the families they have supported this year. Particularly, there were quite a few Ukrainian families in attendance. While the celebrations were happening, our singers were the entertainment!

The students in attendance who were all encouraged to sing a solo item as well as participate in group songs were from Vocalocity Leura, the Orange Regional Conservatorium, Kinross Wolaroi School, James Sheahan Catholic High School and MacKillop College.

Special thanks to Mrs Philippa Waters and Mrs Lindsay Irik for their assistance and enthusiastic involvement on the day. Many thanks also to the event's fellow supporters (in alphabetical order): Catholic Diocese of Bathurst, Orange City Council, Orange Migrant Support Service, Orange Regional Conservatorium, Orange Social Justice Group, Rural Australians for Refugees, Spring Hill Railway Hotel and Team Ukraine.

A message from Amelia...

Thank you and congratulations to all the singers who performed at the commUNITY Celebration on Sunday! What a lovely day it was! You all sang beautifully and with such joy, it was palpable. Thank you also for being so supportive of each other, and supportive of singers you didn't know personally. You all recognised that you were in the same boat performing solo items and I'm so proud that you were there for each other - the cheers and applause for each singer was just wonderful. You, your families and friends really embodied the spirit of the event being all about commUNITY, thank you.
